Edexcel and O Levels explained for parents

Edexcel, O Levels, British curriculum: if these words feel confusing, you are not alone. Here is a plain-English guide for parents.

What is Pearson Edexcel?

Pearson Edexcel is a British curriculum and examination board. Schools around the world use it to teach and assess their students. At Nexus Grammar School, it gives every child one clear pathway from the first day of school to the end of secondary.

What are O Levels?

O Levels are the examinations students take at the end of secondary school. Each subject is a separate qualification, and the results are recognised by universities, colleges and employers in Bangladesh and abroad.

How the pathway works at NGS

  • Early Years (Pre-Play, Playgroup, Nursery and KG): learning through play, songs and stories, with a phonics-first start to reading
  • Primary (Grades 1 to 5): strong foundations in English, Mathematics and Science, with projects and presentations
  • Secondary: focused subject teaching that builds towards Pearson Edexcel O Level examinations

Why the early years matter

O Levels may feel far away when your child is three or four. But confident O Level students are built in the early years, through strong reading, good habits and the confidence to speak up in English.
